Lanius CMS v0.5.1 released

Lanius CMS v0.5.1 has been released; this is a major stabilization and feature upgrade of v0.5.0.

You are invited to migrate your previous Drake CMS and Lanius CMS installations to Lanius CMS v0.5.1.

This software product is considered highly stable and we encourage its usage in production websites.

A full changelog is available at this address:

http://bugs.laniuscms.org/changelog_page.php

You can use one of the available laniuscms_v0.5.1.{7z,tar.gz,zip} archives (same content in different archive formats).

See also Installation guide.

Backward compatibility

Lanius CMS v0.5.1 fully supports Drake CMS and its predecessors, up to Limbo CMS (only database backups supported). See Update guide#Migration.

Updating from Lanius CMS v0.5.0

See Update guide.

Online updates

You can install update patches, language packages (and more) for this version using Online Updates (Administrative Backend -> Packages -> Online Updates).

Lanius CMS wiki launched

The new Lanius CMS documentation will be created on the Lanius CMS Wiki, which uses the MediaWiki software.

http://wiki.laniuscms.org/index.php/Main_Page

We have chosen a more easily editable form of online documents, a wiki, instead of using XHTML or DocBook as our documentation primary format. The DocBook sources will stay on the SVN repository until migration is complete.

Now you can be the documentation editor and reviewer with a few clicks: login to our wiki with the account credentials of the Lanius CMS Official website and start editing!

The first 3 documentation chapters have been moved to the wiki: Introduction, Installation and Administration.

We need help in these areas:

  • proper wiki formatting of current pages
  • splitting of wiki pages into proper units
  • correctness of material, which is a lot outdated
  • integration of old XHTML documentation not present in the wiki, e.g. that in lang/en/docs/ directory

We are officially looking for help, please participate now to the project documentation write effort! There is room for F.A.Q.s and tutorials on the project wiki, which is a community resource.

Further information about the wiki works organization will be available at http://wiki.laniuscms.org/index.php/Current_events

A major rework of the current wiki pages is wanted, so if you have a doubt about doing or not a change, we prefer you to do it anyway. Thanks to the wiki history feature reviewers will be able to find mistakes.

Update 07 October 2008: the Captcha issue happening when editing the wiki has been fixed

Lanius CMS v0.5.0: 2nd release update

The package of Lanius CMS version 0.5.0 r363/r510 has been updated to correct some critical bugs, none of security relevance.

No patch package has been released for this release update, in order to update to Lanius CMS v0.5.0 r580 you simply need to overwrite your website root with the content of this package laniuscms_release_upgrade_0.5.0_r363_to_0.5.0_r580.zip.

Note: the revision number will not be updated to 580, but will remain as 363

The packages provided in SourceForge.net downloads already contain the patches of release update.

Database upgrade bug fixed

Note: this bug affects users who have imported a database backup from Drake CMS v0.4.10 or lower, not from the latest Drake CMS v0.4.11

If you are affected by this bug, just create a database backup with your Lanius CMS v0.5.0 r580 and then restore it. The bug did not apply database changes for v0.5.0 to database backups created with a version lower or equal to 0.4.10.

Known issues

  • bug 387 - newsfeed do not work due to a caching bug (see bug to know about a valid patch)

Lanius CMS v0.5.0 released

The first version of Lanius CMS has been released.

You are invited to migrate your previous Drake CMS installations to Lanius CMS v0.5.0.

This software product is probably the most Stable of the Drake CMS / Lanius CMS development cycle; we aim to reach even more stability with the next version 0.5.1 but you can already use version 0.5.0 in production websites as we encourage this type of usage now.

Lanius CMS v0.5.0 is no more marked as "Beta" software; we are not yet marking it as "Stable" because we want some user feedback from this version before proceeding with our development.

Thank you for all your feedback and support!

Backward compatibility

Lanius CMS v0.5.0 fully supports Drake CMS v0.4.11 and its predecessors, up to Limbo CMS (only database backups supported). If you have a database backup created with Drake CMS or Limbo CMS you can easily import it by placing it in the /private/backup directory and then restoring it using the System -> Database -> Backups page.

Known issues

There are some known issues in Lanius CMS v0.5.0 r363:

  • documentation is broken/incomplete, we are working on this;
  • it is not possible to correctly install software addons in some cases; packages with '.svn' directories will fail to delete temporary directory;
  • bug 220 when entering Global Configuration (Windows OS or stat() disabled);
  • no mailer is enabled by default, you should enable one in the Drabots Manager admin backend interface (PHP mailer should be the default one)
  • download component is broken due to bug 275 (hotfix instructions available in the issue tracker)
  • bug 281, new users created in admin backend cannot be anything else than Registered users

Note: all bugs here mentioned have been fixed in release update of Lanius CMS v0.5.0 r510, you can upgrade your r363 overwriting with the content of this archive laniuscms_release_upgrade_0.5.0_r363_to_0.5.0_r510.zip

Addon factory and packages submission service

Two new services are active:

  • Lanius CMS Factory - a wizard (not yet complete) which shall help you in creation of simple components, modules and drabots
  • Packages submission service - a frontend tool to submit Lanius CMS packages (components, modules, drabots, templates and language packages) which are ready to release (use the issue tracker otherwise for incomplete packages or packages needing review) to the Lanius CMS Team

The activation of these two new services is the first step in a path that will lead to the true opening of the Lanius CMS potential.

The next step in our roadmap is to complete the documentation, both for users and developers (this is necessary to allow 3rd party packages).

The packages submission service will become an important tool in near future, when the CMS will be detached from all the optional packages; we will bring total customization at hand through it.

How to use them

We will active submitted packages directly in the online updates service for all Lanius CMS users, once we have verified them and added to the public SVN repository. If your license is not compatible with GNU GPL v2, we will not accept it.

Translators and template designers are invited to use the packages submission service; addon developers should wait some more time (at least v0.5.2) but can start using the Factory for their learning.
